Thank you so much for showing this great architecture to us!
It is shame that I didn't visit this place when I visited York!
As always I wanted to learn more about this great monastry before comment these wonderful pictures.
Now I know There has long been a tradition of monasticism in the North of England, especially in Yorkshire where abbeys were established as early as the 7th century.
Perhaps the most impressive of these abbeys is Fountains Abbey, famous for its superb setting and extensive ruins. Fountains Abbey lies along the valley of the River Skell about two miles west of Ripon.
It is located approximately three miles south-west of Ripon in North Yorkshire, near to the village of Aldfield. Founded in 1132, the abbey operated for over 400 years, until 1539, when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
The abbey was named Fountains Abbey because of the springs of water that existed in the area.
The abbey church survives almost to full height, with the nave and many windows almost to full height.
The shadows you have used masterfully, add interest to the naves and windows!
The exceptional monastery is now top of my list of my next visit to England...

Ah yes, I remember it well....as the song goes! It is a beautiful picture you have taken. We stayed in a campsite near York, in the village of Acaster Malbis. Many years later whilst on holiday in Rhodes, Greece, we shared a dining table with a couple from that very village, and have been writing to them ever since!
Thanks for sharing and for more memories Peter.
Best wishes, Rosa.
Thank you very much!
I'm happy that you had a good look!!
Best Wishes, and a good week ahead
Peter
Your visit is much appreciated. Thank you!
I am pleased you found it interesting.
As you know, I do like to frame the pictures with trees, if I can find them!!
Best Wishes, and a good week ahead
Peter
