Irish stoat, and his lunch!

Irish stoat, and his lunch!
It is a different (and rare) species from the English stoat.

Thank you Steve,

Let me say that this photo probably would not have existed except for yours and Herbs advice over focus. I had the normal lens on the camera, and was some distance away making photos of the sea, when I saw this little animal running over the rocks. No time to do anything else, but keep the focus point on him, and keep clicking (I keep the camera on continuous by habit). Fortunately most of the shots were appropriately in focus, and heavily cropped from what the 7200 will produce.

Your visit is most welcome. I was photographing the sea, and I saw something running over the rocks... I didn't know what it was until I examined the pictures!

Great capture Peter. I once saw a stoat in Malham cove round up a rabbit before carrying it off like this one with its prey. Well done, Herb

Hi Herb,

Thank you so much! This was pure chance, unexpected, and caught me totally unawares, as I said to Steve above. It was only later I found that it was a quite rare animal...
And only thanks to yours and Steve's advice that the shot even existed. Who knows what the multiple focus points might have done with the wide aperture which was set.....

Best wishes
Peter.

Thank you Steve,

As I said above, it was a total surprise to see this small mammal running over the rocks. I didn't even notice the fish until I looked in detail.
It certainly looks a rather sad fish!

WOW! A stunning capture, Peter! Thanks for the link too. It certainly looks like a fish and it may have swum out to sea to catch it as the text says they are good swimmers.
Best wishes,
Andy

Thank you Andy

I am pleased that you like it, especially since it is a bigger picture heavily cropped. There were plenty of rock pools about, so maybe the poor fish got caught in one... And maybe the stoat knows where to keep looking!

Best wishes
Peter
