Hi Nick,

Thank you for visiting this very snowy railway in the middle of Germany!
As you can see, the snow is still falling, perhaps the wrong kind of snow, but we were to see a lot more of it in the next week or so!

Yes, the adventure had started!

Hi Frank,

Thank you so much for your appreciation (and correction of the typo error). This was a very quick passing visit to Harz, while on the way to some other railways which You will be familiar, as I studied your pictures of them before going!!! Thank you for the hints!!

Best Wishes

... great exhaust against this sky and snow ... is this a cab-forward steam powered unit? oil-fired maybe? ...

Hi Wally,

Nice to hear from you again. I am so pleased that you like it, and the German winter.
It is the same locomotive as www.ipernity.com/doc/2247998/46015796 , but this time running bunker first. I am sure our German friends may say more, but these locomotives are coal fired tank engines, and the normal method of operation is to run chimney first one way, then simply run the locomotive to the other end of the train, and run back bunker first.
A totally different concept from the Southern Pacific 'Cab Forward' 4-8-8-2 locos.

My Dear Füsun,

I am really happy that we shared this together, and that you have enjoyed it, Locomotives running backwards are always difficult, but in this case we have such a lot of black smoke as the fire has not really warmed up properly yet. A wonderful experience.. Thank you!

Love Peter
