The Spirit of Tom Kendell, # 60 007

The Spirit of Tom Kendell, # 60 007
On Wednesday 07 September 2011, a DB Schenker Rail Class 60 locomotive was named The Spirit of Tom Kendell during a private ceremony at Knottingley depot.

The naming was held in remembrance of Tom Kendell, a young and enthusiast engineer at the company who lost his life in an accident.

The name was unveiled in front of friends and family members of Tom after short speeches by John Langton, Head of Risk Management for DB Schenker Rail, and Tom’s mother, Andrea Kendell.

The name was unveiled by Tom’s father, Mark Kendell.

The locomotive has also had the logo of DB Schenker Rail’s safety campaign for employees, called Switch on to Safety, applied to it.

Marie-claire Gallet, Andy Rodker, Erhard Bernstein, Ste and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

Thank you Nick,

Maybe the spirit of Tom Kendell will inspire others to be more careful. Perhaps he has left his legacy on the world in a different way...

Thank you Steve,

Your visit and kind comments are really appreciated, as always. Wansford is unmistakable, and about the most scenic view of the line. The swan was a nice bonus!
Unfortunately I don't know anything more about Mr Kendell than is written here.

A sad story ...

Thank you Erhard,

Of course DB Schenker is a German company, and in line with current fashion seem very safety conscious. The circumstances of the accident seem unrecorded in the public domain.

Thank you Andy,

Whatever the story here, safety is the responsibility of everybody. Maybe the memory of this young gentleman may prompt others to be more careful. They may not be so luck as to be remembered for good things.

Best Wishes
