The famous palace-monastery, seen from the Herreria Woods (mainly holm and Pyrenean oak), with smoke from an autumnal bonfire (appropriate for November 5!) and the slopes of Abantos behind.
There is actually quite a substantial town there, more or less hidden by the bulk of this enormous edifice!
When Felipe II had it constructed, it must have been the largest building in Europe at that time. He needed a big place to run his Empire from and for hundreds of monks to pray for and with him!
Best viewed on max enlargement.

The stone structure at the end of the pier was demolished by a severe storm the year after I took this shot. It was rebuilt straight away and looks exactly the same today, I'm pleased to say!

Sierra de La Cabrera with the Convento Monasterio de San Julian y San Antonio. Without the right lenses, stitching ability, etc, I have never been able to get the whole ridge in one shot from this close. Therefore, the best I can come up with are these two shots next to each other!
Bosigran Head, granite.

Cornish cliff granite can be as fun as the granite I find in La Sierra de Guadarrama, Central Spain, for scrambling around in!
Cornish colour fantasy.

Some will remember this from Pano and 23 hq. Pure fantasy with a bit of tweaking of tone but the colours at that moment were not far off this!
Bosigran Head, Zennor, Cornwall - the main climbing cliff.
2nd posting on ipernity; first time 4 years ago but worth a re-show just for the colours of this early evening shot!

Granite scenery. The three peaks L to R of El Cancho Largo, El Cancho Gordo and El Cancho de La Bola. As you all know by now, this is my all-time favourite walking area, with the sea cliffs and coastal paths in Cornwall a very close second!

My first couple of years in these mountains and I hardly saw a cloud, whatever the season. I revelled in this blanket blue sky-ness at first (well I would, having come form England) but it began to pall and I started to look forward to weather forecasts predicting mixed sunshine and cloud and only then would I head for the hills! But I accept that blue sky has its place!
Foreground lichen and distant hills want z, apparently. The Nokia N95 cameraphone was a superb camera and a sh.te phone and I much regret my dropping it in a bog. It performed well above expectations on autofocus from close up through mid-distance stuff right through to distant mountains. I didn't know how lucky I was. Subsequent cameraphones (Samsung and Moto) haven't been as good with regards auto focusing, imho!

South West Peninsula Coast Path, typical summer flora. Crane Island in mid distance, Godrevy and St Ives in far distance.
Camp Cameron

Camp Cameron was the US Forces army base for black service personnel in the UK in WWII. They were placed here, in Out-Of-The-Way Cornwall so as not to frighten the poor timid natives. Joe Louis was based here and wrote that he was bored out of his mind!
Now, no trace remains of the camp which was situated above St Agnes Head.

A bit of a shock to open the curtains this morning and see this directly outside the bedroom window!
(Essential repairs to the spire, apparently!).
