Another batty photo!

Another batty photo!
Because of the rain a few days ago, the mosquito breeding season was a very short but frenzied one. The result was that today they emerged from their watery nymph form and were all set to plague our lives but at just the right moment (they must have been waiting all summer for this), our friends the Pipistrelle bats came out in force and chomped away to their and our delight!

The bats roost in the eaves under the roof of the house two further along. They come out at dusk every day but today they came out in their hundreds to enjoy the feast!

I use every repellent under the sun! I wear a rubber bracelet that is impregnated with anti- something-or-other and I have sprays for the air in my bedroom at night and for my skin. They seem to do the trick!
But it's nice having the bats as extra insurance as I do react badly to mosquito bites!

It must be wonderful to be able to see the bats coming out at sunset and flying around nearby.

And Keith, it's puzzled me. I've heard that the mosquito has almost zero nutritional mass to interest any prey. And yet, thankfully, these bats disagree!

How lovely for you - I counted 3 mosquitos in my lounge yesterday - now that's something we don't often see. Still I gave them a good talking to, and told them that they'd be much happier outside!!!!

This is a great picture and thanks for pointing the bats out for us. The cloud has a great shape - almost like a jet plane.

The question is how do the bats know maybe a scout is sent out to check, I used to get them around the house but I've not seen them for a few years despite them being protected. Do you remember as a boy being able to hear them ?

I saw them very occasionally as a child but never heard them. I certainly hear them now though, Peter!
The bats are out most evenings (they need to eat afer all!) - I suppose they send a message back somehow, Not via WhatsApp, I'm fairly sure of that!

I got a bit carried away, Rosa with trying to get a good bat shot and eventually I didn't notice the cloud colour changing to reflect the sunset in progress!
