The Coast of North Carolina has who knows how many ships on the ocean floor [ not just weather, but pirates ]. The lighthouses along the coast -- each is different -- in shape -color-in how long the light shines. So back when they were used, the length of how long the light blinked told the seamen where they were in bad weather..
