Not a tin mine, Jenny. A memorial to Francis Basset, Lord of Dunstaville, erected in 1836. He owned many of the tin mines round here and was amazingly, much loved!

Ooops sorry about that mistake. It just looks similar to some of the tin mines in Cornwall.

This picture of yours is a fantastic example of +/1 space and proper composition using dark and light in different sizes. Reminds me of one of my first graphic design assignments--to create a graphical piece just like this but using cross-hatching with pens on art paper to create the shapes. You would have gotten an A with this! :)
