This is rock samphire. The expensive restaurant stuff is marsh samphire. This type here is more fiery and very iodiney and an acquired taste. I like it lightly steamed with melted butter and it goes well with plainly steamed fish. In my family only my mum and I like it but I do collect some from time to time. I also like the young shoots raw but in trying to persuade my girlfriend of its charms, I only caused her to throw up over the cliff edge! Not a fan!
