I thought it would make a change from the seaward view, seen on every other postcard from Cornwall!

Andy, this is so cool! AND WOW IS THAT STACK HUGE!!! Really cool!! Nice shot, super composition and thank you for the person so we know how big that is. :)

Also, thanks so much for your comment on my Strawberry Tree...YES!! I remember reading that this tree is native to Spain and it is made into a liquor there and used in recipes regularly. Thank you for sharing that, I would love to taste the various things it's used for at some point. :)

The fruit actually is perfectly pleasant and, yes, a bit 'grainy' - not unlike a few varieties of pear in that sense. But yes, better cooked or distilled!

Great shot against the swirly sky.

It's the swirling clouds that tempted me to point the camera away from the sea for a different aspect of the mine. Thank you, Esther!

... all of it leads the eye upward: nice ...

... looks like a great place for hiking, if steep trails with loose footing are your calling (maybe oxygen bottles are cached half way up) ...

Impressive ruins..............they look very nice indeed in the sunshine. You've captured the detail in the stonework perfectly Andy.

It looks like a bit of a scramble to get down there!

Thank you Keith. There is a broad and level approach to it along the South West Peninsula Coast Path (I'm standing on it!). As I mention above, I thought it would make a change from the seaward view, seen on every other postcard from Cornwall!

Hi Janet!!!
:o)))
No, The link you attach is from Central Spain, a long way from the sea and the one here is from the Cornish coast! BUT, well done for seeing some evidence of mining activity in the Spanish one (well, quarrying of granite in fact!).

Hi Andy

Very nice composition, especially including the girl complimenting the big chimney thrusting up into the sky.

I like this very much

Nice capture Andy, the stones look great. I wounder if the use of brick at the top of the chimney is by design or otherwise.

Best wishes, Doug

Probably not by accident, that's all I can guess, Doug, Why do you ask?

No special reason Andy, just curious as to why the use of bricks, perhaps to reduce the weight.
Andy Rodker club has replied to Doug Shepherd club
They employed the very best structural engineers here. These mines were at the cutting edge of technological innovation and I'm sure that if it had tobe brick for the top of the chimney, there must have been a very sound reason! It would be interesting to know!

I've visited Cornwall several times, even though it's not all that far from me, and these structures and ruins are all over the place. I haven't walked down to inspect it closely though. It's very tall and the building next to it must have been three floors high. Amazing

I think it's fair to say, Jenny that this is, by far and away, the most famous of them; or at least the most photographed. Usually from a different angle such as this; www.ipernity.com/doc/2247598/45374596/in/album/1036936
