HFF, everyone!! I have just realised it is Wednesday today. For a few hours I thought it was Thursday!!! The reason? An earlier class was with a student who I normally see on Thursdays!! DOH!!

The first in a series to come of GREAT fences!
I have been bemoaning the lack of fences in my gallery because of their absence where I go walking (Central Spain and Cornwall). Then, suddenly, on my walk last weekend, I saw the light! The fences had been there all the time!! More fences in fact than I could ever have dreamed of! I just hadn't recognised them as such! But they are; and superb specimens as you will see (and here too!) :o)))
I'm rather fond of this oak tree as well! Taken from the Roman Road again.

Dimas Sequeira, micritter, Rosalyn Hilborne, Marco F. Delminho and 47 other people have particularly liked this photo

Well I admit that they are really shored up walls but I think they qualify, Steve!

These really are 'something else', Betty. I found it hard to supress a giggle at some of them! This one is very stately in comparison!

Probably is, Peter! Steve has just invited me to join the Silver Surfers group and I had my first look and saw that you are one of the moderators. As I don't yet know what a silver surfer is and the info on the group page doesn't explain, I don't know if I qualify but I'm guessing it might be an age related thing??
... especially from your comment above!

No idea how I came to be a moderator, yes you have to be 60, I never ask anyone to join it avoids mistakes !!!!

Thanks Ronald.
The fence is a bit of a joke, although better constructed than most; you will see what I mean in forthcoming HFFs! My comments above were very much tongue in cheek!
And I agree with you about the oak!

Beautiful photo! I like the soft play of light and shadow, the wonderful old oak and the stone fence! A really beautiful place. HFT! :))

I consider only the wooden additions to be the 'fence' part! The wall is definitely a wall!
Many thanks for your appreciation!

Those dry stone walling fences are amazing. I can understand how you missed them, I would think of wood construction when I think of fences. That is indeed a beautiful old oak tree.
Andy Rodker club has replied to Jenny McIntyre club
Well the fence aspect only refers to the wood placed on top of the walls, Jenny!! Where the walls start to collapse, the farmer constructs a makeshift 'fence' using fallen branches and so on!
Before, all I saw were the walls which aren't fences! (Except in Cornwall, where walls most definitely ARE called fences!!). Then I started to see the wooden fences all over the place!

I love the shape of the oak tree.............and that is a wonderful old dry stone "fence". You've totally confused me me with the title and description though ;-)))

I'll put it down to you having a "senior moment".............something I'm having much more frequently of late..!!

At least it saves you the worry of posting a fence shot tomorrow! An early HFF to you Andy and enjoy your forthcoming weekend.

Andy Rodker club has replied to Keith Burton club
My description to Jenny above might help, Keith. Or might confuse even further!
Well, I decided to post another shot of a wonderful fence today as well! Double bubble!

HOORAY ANDY!!! :D Oh, what FUN to realize something that fills you with effervescent wiggling! :D I'm delighted for your discovery and I look forward to seeing your series of fences! :)

You sure did get a nice image of this one, I love this stone fence and the oak too. Great texture, super shapes, wonderful light and shadow. This picture is just YUMMY! :)
Andy Rodker club has replied to Janet Brien club
Thank you, Janet!
I would just like to clarity that the stone wall is a wall not a fence! But where the wall has collapsed, the farmers have filled in the gaps with makeshift wooden 'fences' such as as you see here on top of the wall and of such a rudimentary nature that I find them very pleasing in their simplicity (as well as amusing!) and yes I know that sounds patronising!
 Andy Rodker
Andy Rodker club
***WOW; my shot seems to be liked better than I would have thought, but then it is a tree with 'character!'. Please let me add here that a wall is a wall is a wall. It is what the farmers put on top of it or in the gaps, usually of wood, that I call a fence! Many thanks to you all!***

Wednesday ..Thursday... it's the same I mean.. for a HFF with this tree with a strong 'character' and above all because it reminds me some stone walls buiklt as a fence from one farm of olive trees to another in..the South of Italy..Puglia, for example:-)
All the best from Bea
5 years ago. Edited 5 years ago.
Andy Rodker club has replied to Beatrice Degan(MARS)
Thanks, Bea!! I'm not going to argue about what is and what is not, a fence! I'm quite relaxed about it; honestly! But I do think there is a differnce! Here the two get combined so that there is a wall part and also a fence part! That's all! :o))))

It works for me Andy. Seems strange seeing a wall fitted with a wooden branch top but hey -as you say much better than many I see here. Nice gnarly tree to boot.

Well, it amuses me and I will post one or two others- and perhaps add in a couple that I posted before but maybe didn't recognise as HFF material, The jury's still out on whether I actually want to repeat myself; I do that often enough by accident anyway!!
Thanks Herb and have a great weekend!
