Ballowall

Ballowall
Ballowall Scillonian burial chamber, or Ballowall Barrow for short, with Land's End in the distance and that mysterious white cloud again (well, not mysterious to me but it was mysterious according to the Editor of the Times and to a couple of ipernity members who sent me emails in Cornwall the next day asking if I'd seen it. Well ... yes ... ).

Diane Putnam, Sylvie, Eunice Perkins, and 39 other people have particularly liked this photo

And what was the white cloud?
The landscape here is outstanding, Andy.

To me just a white cloud that can often come in off the sea even on the clearest of days. But for some unfathomable reason, The Times decided to publish a photo of it at Land's End on its front page and to suggest that it was a Very Mysterious Occurrence! I have absolutely no idea why!!!

It looked mysterious from the angle it was taken: a great wall of white like a tsunami wave.

Thank you, Isisbridge. It obviously looked like that to many people! But I had seen it before off the Cornish coast and didn't give it a second glance!

Wonderful colours and different textures with the vegetation and the rocks, a lot of effort went into constructing them

Originally it would all have been buried under a mound of stones and then earth, so the intricacy of construction would have been hidden ... until the many storms and many grave-robbers over the centuries revealed it all.

A stunning cliff-top vista. I love the contrast in textures between the stonework and the vegetation.

A fascinating image Andy.............I love all the different shapes of the stones and the way they're fitted together. I always amazes to me to think that people went to all that trouble to build something which no one would see (for hundreds of years.........although they wouldn't know that).

These funeral rooms they were constructed by Celtic people?

Andy Rodker club has replied to SLANG club
If you drew a timeline between the building of this and now, the appearance of the Celts would be about half way along - so considerably before the Celts!

What mysterious cloud? I see clouds, but they seem ordinary to me...
Anyway, sites like this are wonders, places for dreaming about eons past. Wonderful shot, AndyQ

I mean...Andy! with an exclamation mark. Forget the Q, don't even look at it.
