Well flying is a tad quicker, although Cornwall is so isolated - nothing in the way of a fast transport link to London - that it takes days to get there form Madrid whatever you do!

2 days each way, effectively. It's 20 hours (more in bad weather) from Santander to Plymouth. The sea was as flat as a pancake both ways, despite adverse weather reports. The Bay of Biscay is notorious for rough seas. We enjoyed our good luck with two calm nights for sleep.
