Huish Episcopi is close to Ilchester and the Roman Fosse Way. The building of a housing estate here was very recently put on hold when it was discovered that there was a large Roman Villa right where the new homes are to go. It's thought by the site size that it might have been the luxury home of some big wig.

Keep Huish Roman ;-))))))

Why do you think they're putting the barrier in - hoping the flooding will ease and they'll be able to build more housing on the floodplain - not that I'm at all cynical ...

Hi Maggs
A very nice picture, which I like very much!
Wonderful and interesting story. Let us hope that it puts an end to this idea of building more houses, which will end up as the slums of the future once they fill them with low life!
Best Wishes, HFF, a nice Easter weekend, and stay safe!!

It slows down the builders but gives us the chance to learn more about the Romans in Britain.

Interesting find - more frequent than it may seem! Some years ago, excavations were made in the main avenue of a town to replace sewers plumbing and a lot of archaeological remains were discovered. It was at Mértola and I remember looking down the ditch and seeing the skeleton of a Roman tomb! Belated HFF and happy Easter, Maggie!
