Russian box with trinkets from China and Mexico

Russian box with trinkets from China and Mexico
I don't know what that says. I think it's a Mah Jong tile and I have no idea why I would have just one . Everything was given to me by former co-workers in San Francisco - a multicultural bunch.

I was walking around San Francisco's Chinatown one day and went down an alley. Upstairs, I heard loud men's voices and a loud clack-clacking sound, which I think were Mah Jong tiles. A few more feet and there was a tiny incense shop. There were many shapes and sizes of sandalwood incense, all packaged in bright red. The smell of sandalwood was so strong I was a little bit light headed. I felt like I was transported to old China. These items make me miss that city very, very much.

In early "Windows" times there was a computergame with such Mah Jong stones. You had to put them together after several rules. I didn't make it most of the time. But now when I see that stone I remember it...

MARVELOUS!! I loved looking at all of the objects in that pretty painted box. Reading your description transported me there and I stood there, listening to the mahjong game and smelling the incense too...wonderful. San Francisco is my birthplace and I've spent over 30 years there. It is vastly changed from what it used to be, but I know those little alleys are still there...the secret little places that are simply timeless.

Thanks for the lovely experience and your wonderful photography.

Also, thanks for your WONDERFUL comment about my houseboat pictures and what you had to say about moving right into one and letting me know how it would be...I LOVED IT!! *high five*

Janet, many thanks for your kind and thoughtful comment! Also, I'm very happy to know someone born in SF! Despite its current troubles, it's a beautiful city. ;-)

We have a "president" who loves to make enemies. He thinks it's fun.

Thank you for the star, Leon!
