A 1910s railroad snow plow (PiP)

A 1910s railroad snow plow (PiP)
This belonged to the old timber railroad system, which hauled logs to the mills, then hauled lumber back out. The body is wood, blades are metal and could be the type called spreaders. I came across some fascinating early snowplows while I was trying to find out when and where the above was made. I didn't find any like it, but wood was commonly used in railroad car construction pre-1910. Here is a spectacular Canadian design, c. 1900...

1900-plow

Something that we and the Canadians had plenty of as building material, wood! My photo is a re-take of a shot I posted several years ago - see PiP - and I see it has been re-painted since then. Don Barrett posted a photo of a very similar one he found in Nevada, click on my PiP to go to that comment thread.

It almost looks like the top half of an old riverboat sailing through the grasses! An interesting find Diane and well taken.

Yes, it looks like out of a horror movie. "The rebellion of the killer barns." :)

Thanks for the PIP! It looks like there's something written in Braille lettering on the side, but that's probably just my imagination. :)
It is an amazing vehicle! If you didn't see the wheels, you wouldn't even think it could drive.

Those are rivets, but I see how it does look like Braille. It looks so primitive, doesn't it?

As a construction the rivets is a reliable system. A lot of big bridges are held together with rivets; also the Eiffel Tower. But good engineers also look at a nice picture/pattern of the rivets. :)

I didn't know that. I guess it is similar to welders, who look for a very tidy weld.
