Excellent!
I never tried to grow delphs. I was firmly put off by reading reports about too many natural enemies, the difficulty of keeping them upright in high winds, etc. I later realised that many people were successfu, so I should have given them a go. Too late now! Perhaps I was influenced by the fact that my mum didn't grow them. I must remember to ask her why not.

I tried to grow them many times on the coast. No matter how much bait I put out, snails always at them before they even formed flower spikes. It might not even have been snails! And, yes, I have to support the spikes. Other than that, they have thrived where I am, now. Nothing eats them!

I am planting the sunflowers in the fall (recommended here)...and another one I can't remember. Oh! The hollyhocks. Your cosmos and some columbine I had never did germinate. There were two frosts close together in early June and exactly four zinnia seedlings survived. They might bloom by August. I am babying them along, can't say they're responding with enthusiasm. That's gardening in the high desert! ;-( A very weird place.

That's beautiful Diane! They are very difficult to keep alive and upright. If it's not the slugs it's the winds, but our have been saved for another year!

I don't have snails here - for the first time in my life - and the heaviest winds are in early spring when the flower spikes are short. So! I am finally able to grow delphiniums! I had given up on them when I lived on the coast. Thank you, Rosa.
