Freedom can fade away

Freedom can fade away
This photo and the next are based on shame and anger. They aren't meant to be good photos. 2,300 children, from infants to teens, were removed from their parents' custody as they sought to enter the country from the southern border. They are in custody in chain link cages in Texas and other sites. (I will not be interested in discussing illegal immigration. I am talking about children.) For clarification, please refer to: tinyurl.com/yd6ufryn

I am very proud to say that Sen. Jeff Merkley of OREGON was the first member of Congress to go to Texas, trying to enter one of the "shelters" last week. He was turned away and others started showing up. Now it is all exposed.

On our national day (Sunday) we celebrate freedom from work (day off in lieu Monday). And we have fireworks. I know you do, too, but we also have fireworks on Victoria Day. We love our freedom from work.

Here, you can use the above plastic tablecloth for your barbecue on 4th of July. If you are a toddler from Honduras or 10-year-old from El Salvador whose mother is asking for asylum, you go to the next photo...until such time as a hate-addled man decides otherwise.

I've been resisting concluding that Trump is off his rocker, but it's getting harder. The last month or so has been insane -- attacking allies, promoting dictators, treating children as threats to the nation. And then there's the NAFTA sunset clause, which would destroy the economies of all three countries if enacted.

He has unified Canada, though. Trudeau has the support of the other two major parties against Trump. One of the first things Ontario's new premier, supposedly a Trump-like figure (he's Rob Ford's brother) did was to announce he stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Trudeau against Trump.

I haven't resisted at all! It just seems obvious that he's nuts, especially if you're a mental health professional. Dangerously so. Yes, he's also unified Europe, at least in the sense that they are making deals to cover their own behinds rather than waiting for this defective man to remain their ally.

I can't fathom the rapid demise of the USA, but the longer this goes on thanks to the cowardice of the Republican party and idiocy of Trump worshipers, the more it looks possible. I honestly think it's a goal of Trump and his rich friends, because the more money spent on international endeavors via taxes, the less cash there is for wealthy people to pocket. Could it be that they really think this is all that matters?

Ew, Rob Ford had a brother? At least it he's temporarily distracted by shenanigans to the south.

The head reels.

See this website for reliable organizations that you may donate to for legal and other help to these children and their families: tinyurl.com/y8926ywp Millions of dollars have been donated already and donations are increasing at a fast rate. I chose this long-established charity, which has an excellent rating: actionnetwork.org/fundraising/become-a-monthly-sustainer-2?source=direct_link&

Americans of Ipernity, please consider donating if you are able!

Possibly our lives, if it comes to that. It's happened many times before, eh?

We really shouldn't have to be celebrating freedom in this day and age............we should be taking it for granted.

It just goes to show how fragile a concept freedom is..!!

A super pic Diane and a great narrative and link.................

Excellent point, Keith. Fragile, yes, so fragile that it's shocking.
