Santa Croce

Santa Croce
Notables buried under the floor of Santa Croce cathedral. I suppose there is a record of who these people are. There were many more than I photographed. (See PiP for another scene.)

Cheryl Beal, Gudrun, photosofghosts have particularly liked this photo

In 2011. I was there for 5 days in Rome and took the train to Florence, then a bus to Siena. Those two cities for 9 days, so 2 weeks total. I was not long enough, but I am so grateful that I was able to take that trip! Well, it will not be possible for ME to go again, but why do you say it's "not possible today?"

I think I read somewhere that tourists are no longer allowed to trample over these marble gravestones. I was shocked at the time that they were so open to the public!

I'm fascinated by such tombs though I don't remember those.

I had never seen anything like them, certainly not in a floor and available for millions of people to scrape and trample over! They were quite moving. My photos of them were so awful, but "paint" effects have helped improve my sad Italian photos. I was a beginning photographer at the time and did not understand the limits of my cheap camera. ;-(

Danke, Gudrun!

Cheap camera sounds familiar- I spent a month in Siena and my photos were pretty useless;-) After that I got a "real" camera:-)

Ha! I still don't have a real camera, I just learned how to do a better job with what I've got.

I did not take too much notice of all these 'grave stones' when I lived there near by for about 7 weeks (Borgo Santa Croce). It was enough to know of people, who were important in their times. :-)

Ooh, you were so lucky to live there for awhile!!! So much to see...my little 2 weeks was not nearly enough even for one or two cities.

Mighty fine set of collages. And what, may I ask, is the unreal camera you use to beautifully to get your wonderful images!!!

Fujifilm S2950, costing about $100. Refurbished, from ebay. Lol! It has a lot of quirks, so I have to work around them a lot. For the above photos, I had to edit with a slight "painting" effect, because they were grainy, awful photos. I had NO idea what I was doing.
