Asbestos is not a problem if it isn't disturbed, so if their yards are grass-covered and there were no children playing in the yards, then there's likely to be no problem.

That's what the scientists found. For example, a child beginning at age 3 would have to dig in the dirt X number of hours per day (don't remember the number) into adulthood to be at risk. They compared this with estimations for "average dirt" and it was about the same.

However, if I were a parent of small children, I would probably want to leave. These houses were so big and so far from town that families who did have kids had older ones, who are not usually dirt-diggers. ; ) All of this happened long before I moved back here. I read that there was intense animosity by the "townies" for these people, who were from...wait for it...California. Most of them were retired people who had sold crummy little tract homes in CA to build mansions in this development (and elsewhere). The town people have always been hostile about any complaints by outsiders for any reason. That's Klamath Falls.

That, ingratitude by new movers, is definitely something I understand. I've seen and heard of too many Californians who, when out of state, complain "that's not the way it's done in California",which is rude. Just taking a little time to try to understand how the locals feel would make quite a difference.
