Duck in California, 2007

Duck in California, 2007
He is standing on the snow at Lake Almanor, California, staring at my daughter-in-law, who took this photo. The window was about 5 ft. off the ground and the snow was about 6 ft. deep. He was obviously ready to come in!

Arf! I love this photo - he was new to the family and very insecure. When they let him out, he was soon standing on the snow piled in front of the kitchen window. He has calmed down quite a bit, but still a work in progress.

Oh I understand too well !

Flicka was abused deeply the first 16 weeks of his life.. then we rescued each other. He will be 10 in March... we have come a long way.. but we are both work in progress !

Oh, right, I remember seeing Flicka. Duck was actually shot by his previous owner when he was very young. A bird-hunting accident. His home life was chaotic, too, lots of crazy kids. Hunting dogs are often treated like just property, rather than family pets, and don't get much attention. (My brother, a bird-hunter, is adamantly opposed to this. His trusty old pointer used to sleep on his bed!) So, a nervous wreck all is life, but very sweet when he's calm and comfortable.

He's a lucky Duck, now, hasn't been hunting since he came into my son's family! : b If there's a stranger outside the fence he turns into a Rottweiler!

It was. He's kind of old, now, so he has a down jacket! He doesn't have the usual heavy retriever undercoat. Thanks, Diana!
