➽ Die Maximilianstraße (siehe auch PiPs) in der Innenstadt von Augsburg ist eine der kunsthistorisch bedeutsamsten Straßen Süddeutschlands. Die Ursprünge der in Nord-Süd-Richtung verlaufenden Maximilianstraße reichen zurück bis in die Römerzeit. Ein Abschnitt liegt auf der historischen Römerstraße Via Claudia Augusta, die das 15 v. Chr. gegründete Militärlager und die daraus entstandene Siedlung Augusta Vindelicorum mit Oberitalien verband. Die Via Claudia Augusta entwickelte sich rasch zur wichtigsten Handelsroute zwischen Rom und seiner neuen Provinz Rätien und blieb dies bis ins späte Mittelalter. Aus kunsthistorischer Sicht ist die Maximilianstraße eine der interessantesten Straßenzüge Europas und zugleich ein steinernes Bilderbuch der über 2000-jährigen Stadtgeschichte Augsburgs. Die „Maxstraße“ hat heute eine besondere Rolle im kulturellen Leben Augsburgs. Nicht nur an lauen Sommerabenden genießen Flaneure, Vergnügungssuchende und Stadtliebhaber aus nah und fern die vielen Straßencafés, Restaurants und Clubs. __________________________ ➽ The "Maximilianstraße" (Maximilian Street) (see also PiPs) in the city center of Augsburg is one of the most historically important streets in southern Germany. The origins of the north-south direction running Maximilianstraße go back to Roman times. A section is located on the historic Roman road Via Claudia Augusta, which connect the 15 B.C. founded military camp and the resulting settlement Augusta Vindelicorum with northern Italy. The Via Claudia Augusta quickly became the most important trade route between Rome and its new province of Rhaetia and remained so until the late Middle Ages. From an art historical point of view, Maximilianstrasse is one of the most interesting streets in Europe and at the same time a stone picture book of the more than 2000 years old city history of Augsburg. The "Maxstraße" today has a special role in the cultural life of Augsburg. Flaneurs, pleasure seekers and city lovers from near and far enjoy the many sidewalk cafés, restaurants and clubs not only on balmy summer evenings.

➽ Das Sommacal in der Maximilianstraße ist die älteste Eisdiele in Augsburg. Giovanni Sommacal träumte von einer besseren Zukunft, deshalb kam er 1922 nach Deutschland. Anfangs verkaufte er seine Ware auf Großveranstaltungen und Sportplätzen. Sein Eis wurde in der Stadt bald zu einer begehrten Köstlichkeit. 1930 eröffnete er seine Eisdiele. Bis 2012 war das Sommacal ein Familienbetrieb. 2017 hat es unter neuer Führung, mit den alten Familienrezepten, wiedereröffnet. _________________________ ➽ The Sommacal in the "Maximilianstraße" (Maximilian Street) is the oldest ice cream parlor in Augsburg. Giovanni Sommacal dreamed of a better future, so in 1922 he came to Germany. Initially, he sold his goods at major events and sports fields. His ice cream soon became a coveted delicacy in the city. In 1930 he opened his ice cream parlor. Until 2012, the Sommacal was a family business. In 2017 it has reopened under new leadership, with the old family recipes.
