Archirondel Tower, St Catherine, Jersey

Archirondel Tower, St Catherine, Jersey
Seen on Archirondel Beach, this Martello tower serves as a landmark to guide boats safety to the area. Sometimes known as 'The Red Tower', it is now a popular heritage Let.

These towers were small defensive forts, mostly coastal, that were built across the British Empire during the 19th century from the time of the French Napoleonic wars. Most stand around 40ft (12m) high. Their round structure and thick walls making them resistant to Cannon fire

The classic shape of a Martello tower is always pleasing to the eye! The tide marks are interesting to see, you have been there at really low tide.

A splendid looking Martello tower...........and I like the way it's been repurposed and given that distinctive paint job. The views out to sea must be quite magnificent.

Beautifully captured Herb!

There were a few of these towers about Keith. The red and white stripes certainly made them visible. As you say, the views from here were second to none and so I could see how attractive it would be as a holiday let, especially as detached holiday cottages etc are rare on Jersey.

Take care. Herb
