Out and about, in Saddleworth

Out and about, in Saddleworth
The day after our first snows of the season and we still have this on our local hillsides. Lighting as flat as a pancake, not the ideal weather for photography at all but this has a certain charm to me. The odd dog walker can be seen here as well as a lot sheep in their thick woolly coats.
Just a short distance to the left of this scene, a party of about a dozen pheasant hunters have alighted from their jeeps and stride off onto the hills to the sound of gun-fire and shouts from the accompanying beaters that are employed to disturb the roosting birds. I must admit to enjoying the taste of pheasant but I still debate the rights and wrongs of all that. The sheep at the top left did not like the sound of that shooting at all.
Full screen essential.

You still see the green of the meadow. We have a bit more, but we have mountains.. For me is already enough for all the Winter.

Only a short day of snow and it is all gone today. Just a change to put Winter photos on here. Thanks for the trip.

At first glance this looks quite a bleak landscape...........but viewing large gives you an amazing amount of detail. It does look very cold though and if it wasn't for the muted green of the grass in the foreground, it would be difficult to decide whether this is a mono or a colour image!

Beautifully taken and presented Herb!

The first time I had ever walked up this way Keith and quite a revelation for us. Glad you enjoyed it too.

Lograste transmitir la sensación fría del lugar. La modalidad de batidas, también de faisanes, no es la mejor representación de la caza, tan solo es disparar; cazar es otra cosa. En la mesa disfruto tanto del faisán como del cordero; supongo que es lo común.

Thank you Jose. Good that this did convey a message and of course I stand corrected at my term 'hunters' for these people. As you say -more like target 'shooters'. We have much sheep in our fields here in Northern Britain but it is still one of the most expensive meats on our table. We eat far more lamb than Pheasant which is very expensive indeed.

Take care. Herb

I know where you are coming from Toz. There is rather a lot of pheasant shooting around Saddleworth. A long time tradition I guess. I often see the birds in my path as I walk around Yeoman Hey and Greenfield reservoirs. Like your thinking, a sport that I would not rather see.

A new set of reservoirs from me soon.

This is beautiful... at first, I thought they were rice fields, but in the enlargement, I saw so many beautiful details. The lighting gives it a special feeling.

Delighted to see you here Eva. A wonderful walk albeit in poor weather. We always like to see the sheep on the hills. As you say, lighting is key.

It definitely does have a charm to it Herb! At first I thought it was mono, but then noticed the green grass in the foreground. The graduation of light is beautiful. Cheers, Rosa.

Thanks again for such a nice comment Rosa. A demonstration here that we do not always need blue skies and character clouds. All signs of snow now gone. We used to get snow like this at the end of October.
