The Mirrors were aligned and this was the test target. This was shot over three nights one interrupted by rain that was not suppose to happen , the friday night and saturday night as total shots. The idea of getting more shots is to get better detail of the very faint red high brow and to some extent the very faint low brow. The only problem that many shots is a 5 hour computer stack so I draw the line there. I had to put faith in Nina to work on friday and focus not fail as it was set off at 9pm by itself as I would be way out of town. Deep in the sand dunes of lancelin . This was to be my last colour photo . I framed in Nina in the afternoon then went out for a meal and left Nina to the Job. I framed two shot pano on the long side BUT I get a perfect 2 shot pano on the short side. The left side was the first and during editing I was struck by the Face that stares out at you ( the red Dot left side) once see you cant unsee the face PIP . With a lot of technical looking into the image header and finding out the RA and DEC values we were able to find out the head is GUM 85. we had to put those values in a search engine for space. Shot over two night was a very High target and finished about 1: 30 am . This in the milky way Far left in the shot the very last bit of red. This was a trial to check collimation and to see just how well the "flocking " that was put around the top of the Telescope tube worked. The flocking is suppose to stop light scattering and enhancing contrast - yes that worked. Ocal collimator line things up better than by eye. - it sure did . Most of what you are looking at is Dust and no stars I ran into the problem of not enough stars to properly plate solve. DO look at this on black you will get a better idea. I had some issue's with the 8" telescope I did wonder if it was from the camera , So I went old school. This is the nikon rig with the 300mm D lens and the 1" sensor camera QHY183C , this is pure old school no auto focus but a manual focus with a mask. A small part of the Small magellanic cloud off to one side. This is after I installed a new spider that is solid and is not like a piece of string. the instal was no fast easy step either all 4 vanes have to be at 90 degrees to the tube they sit in. compare the one piece machined spider to the one that was in the scope that looks like string. part of the problem with a Newtonian is the spider that holds the secondary mirror it moves. The new one piece does not stays in the same place. To try and get things right a new camera that looks down the focus tube. Ocal Camera trying to get it illuminated correctly has been a battle but I hit on the idea of using the tracing board I use to light the flats. It worked better that what I was doing before. What are you looking at the whole inside of the mirror train just as the camera that takes the photo above does. The green circle is generated and fitted perfectly to high inside the focus tube more or less the area where the pink lines end. The green circle is shrunk down to the size of the secondary mirror to get it round to match the circle generated. The red circle is the reflected rear mirror in the secondary mirror get that to fit concentric to the green Next you see that there is a small blue circle inside you can see the small "red" camera and its sensor taking the photo. you can also see a small Nuclear symbol that sits on the "center" of the mirror.he pink lines cross at the center of the camera not quite the supposed center marked on the mirror. then to fine tune you use two cat eyes much easier to use after this alignment. small steps till I get it right. The new spider and collimation is paying dividends.This is 98% the way there in terms of star quality and focus. For the very first time i have been able to collimate the mirrors with the eyes while on the mount so it closer. you have seen this galaxy before but not in so much detail. This may look like one shot but in fact is 4 shot panorama of the area. The main reason for the shot was to see the big star middle top and its difraction spikes from the new solid spider. I had to retake flats as the first stack when I looked at the shot looked like Checkerboard. Flats are uses to remove lens faults and dust. if you look at the pip you can see just what I mean. This is three night shot and the finish of my use of the coloured camera. This is all a part of the same area in the Large Magellanic Cloud Space is black look at all the nebulosity in the area. This photo was taken by a Black & White Camera but with filters that show up the elements of the Nebula. Ha ( Hydrogen Shows up Red) S2 (Sulphur shows up a Darker red) O3 ( Oxygen Blue green). The shot above was combined as Ha S2 S2 . note the colour difference in the shot below same data as the top shot but a different combination so different colour HSO. I first took one night mix of the three filters O3 S2 Ha to see if it looked promising. I have been chasing cool to run the camera at -10c I have to get a 25c start. The one night looked very promising so I added an extra nights worth of shots to each filter to get close to 100 shots each. My first shot showed my Flats was not very good there were some Lens train faults the showed up in the processed image. so I got up at 5 am in the cool of the morning to retake a whole new set of flats Restack the whole lot and start all over again. you can see the big dot in the very center and the normal amount of vignetting you see on a telescope around the edge.(darkened corners) its a case of retaking the whole lot all over again...but the shot below shows you what is removed from the stacked shots to get a clean shot for each of the three filters. The Narrow band filters shows up a lot more of the Nebulas than a normal one shot colour camera. This is my first real shot into this world a lot more work but very interesting results. My first coloured photo with the Mono camera using the 4 filters that make up the coloured photo. LRGB or Luminous , Red, Green and Blue just like a DSLR can only be shot when there is no moon light. This Is a Narrow band shot of Thors helmet using two filter's Ha Red colour and O3 Blue colour to get the colour photo with the B/W camera. A lot of detail has come out of using the filters as well. Slowly coming to terms with the world of filters one of the drawbacks I am not able to rotate the filter wheel without upsetting the balance of the mount. the shot needed to be rotated a few degrees to the right to square up the wings on the helmet. As it was just two filters I took 110 shot with each filter to make up this shot Combined in the Pallet of Ha O3 O3 to get the colours you see here much like the pure colour shot from before.
