Splendido esempio di architettura romanica e gotica, dichiarato monumento nazionale, la Concattedrale di Ostuni è il cuore della città bianca.

Si adagia nel centro storico di Ostuni, la bella Cattedrale quattrocentesca, intitolata a Santa Maria dell’Assunzione, monumento nazionale dal 1902, che si erge sulla sommità del colle più alto della città bianca.

Ristrutturata nel tardo Quattrocento, dopo un forte terremoto, la Cattedrale si presenta con la maestosa facciata a tre portali, sormontati da tre rosoni, tra cui quello centrale, trionfo della simbologia medievale, con 24 raggi formati da colonnine e archi e al centro la figura di Cristo, circondato dagli apostoli e da sette teste di cherubini, con in mano la terra in segno di protezione.
L’interno ha una pianta a croce latina composta da tre navate e si presenta completamente rivoluzionato in chiave barocca essendo state rivestite, a partire dal Settecento, le strutture portanti gotiche con stucco martoriato o rivestimenti in legno.
