Bluff Lake

Bluff Lake
Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge
The bald-cypress trees have lost almost all their leaves. The water level in the lake is rather low, exposing the bases of the trees.

Lol :-)) I was just about to comment on the high water level before I read your notes Ronald.
All the lost leaves, is this due to the Low water level?. It's an impressive stretch of water, are there any Alligators in it.

Actually the water level is lower than normal. The trees have lost most of their leaves because it is autumn. There are many alligators in this lake; some of them are very large, maybe 4 or 5 m long. Somewhere in ipernity, I have posted photos of some big alligators.

No, Keith, I would never step into this lake because of the alligators. This photo and the others were taken from an elevated boardwalk.

It's interesting to see: because of the low water level, the bases of the trees are exposed.

Yes, these bald-cypress trees have very broad bases. I think it helps them live in the water without falling over. Thanks for the visit, Christa.

Yes, it is, Cheryl. In the summer we paddle our kayaks on this lake, but in winter it is reserved for migrating waterfowl.
