What a stunning pair! I would love to see some fancy ducks like this, how lucky for you. :) I was amazed to find out how many species there are...about 180!!! And they interbreed and also there are domestic hybrids, and all of these can intrerbreed too, so there is a reason that sometimes it can be next to impossible to figure out the exact species of a bird because it's a mutt! :D

Thanks for the remarks you left on my rock picture, it was fun to hear you were once in a rock club! I think that would be a fun thing to do now, but when I was a kid, all I cared about were animals and my love of horses and reading and day dreaming! :)

Birds can be a really difficult subject, too. I often see photos on ipernity that people in Europe or somewhere else have taken, and they look just like something here, but then I look, and our local species doesn't go to Europe.

They seem to like each other quite a bit, Karen. They visit my ponds every several days in the winter.

A delightful image Ronald. It looks just like they are cuddled ups together and the reflections and light are really exceptional. A beautiful image. I do agree about bird identification and we have on occasions spent hours looking at bird books and still not been sure.

Thank you very much, Carol. Yes, I think they are cuddled up. I am quite sure of this species. They are regulars here in the winter, and I've got good views of them.

Thank you very much, Ulrike. There were some wood ducks on my pond this morning, but it was too dark to get good photos.
