Was there any food for him?

I am sure he could find something. This time of year, there are always partial deer carcasses left by hunters. But there is a lot of competition from hundreds of other vultures that come here in the winter.

I love those 'sailing giants' in the sky. It isn't often that one can take a photo of them this close.

Dozens of black and turkey vultures spend nights on the power lines near our house. It takes them a while in the morning to dry off so they can fly.

I'm not used to seeing them so close to civilization.

I'm not sure you'd call where I live civilization. It is quite rural. The black vultures live here all the time. Hundreds of turkey vultures spend their winters here.
