River, Keith! The river is dammed at this point by a weir for a power station. That's why it looks like a lake.

Ich war da schon mal, auch im Winter in einer ähnlichen Situation.
Wasserkraftwerk Greiz-Dölau, über dem Wehr
Damals war das Licht nicht ganz so gut.
