Saturday Self-Challenge 2/4/17: Neon Signs - or any type of lighted sign.

Here: detail of a piece of NEON ART: Leda and the Swan.
1996 installed in front of Estrel-Hotel, it was destroyed in a stormy night some years ago, now it is rebuilt. The complete installation is shown in PiP. It`s large: may be 2,5x4 m ....

Wow, that's quite a lot of neon you found, Heidi! I thought it looked like a foot. It would be interesting to know the story behind this work of art. A great find this week! :)

... omg, this week I spent a lot of hours outside in cold, windy evenings, hunting for good neon lights. But I was not successful .... so I googled for companies, producing or fixing this kind of lights. And: I found a small company, here in Berlin ! On their web-site was written about this installation "Leda&Swan". It was built 20 years ago by a group of light-artists, but destroyed by a storm some years ago. And now this small company fixed it !
- I never before heard about this piece of modern art !
So I went to this hotel (it's written: "Installation in front of the hotel") .... but didn't found it.
At last I asked the security boys - they start laughing - and showed the right place ....
it's breathtaking .... this statue is very big; placed in the hotel's empty beer garden
(closed during winter), not to be seen from the street, like a little secret ... alone with snow and winter trees ..... and me and my tripod.

Ja, zu dieser Erkenntnis bin ich (leider) auch gekommen, Gabi.
Wenn man davorsteht (es ist riesig, dreidimensional) haut's einen total um.
Weil es so absurd wirkt: mitten im Nichts, auf einer eingeschneiten Wiese, umringt von kahlen Winterbäumen; außerhalb der Biergartensaison kommt da kein Mensch vorbei. Hab das Ding (das in seinem "natürlichen Umfeld" überhaupt nicht obszön wirkt) von allen Seiten und Blickwinkeln her abgelichtet. - Und mich gewundert, daß es im Foto überhaupt nicht wirkt. Das Dreidimensionale kommt nicht rüber (obwohl die Version hier schon ein HDR ist). Falls jemand eine Idee hat .... ich hab's nicht besser hinbekommen.
