Tourists can make use of a horse drawn canal boat which travels some of the way along the canal towards the Horseshoe Falls in one direction and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in the other.

Located on the River Dee, near to Llantysilio, this masterpiece of Thomas Telford Engineering is where the Pontcysllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage site begins. He designed this weir to draw water from the River Dee in to the canal, and it became a stunning addition to the landscape. At 460ft (140M) long, it’s a sight to behold. This year the area has been spoiled by traffic queues and very dangerous parking along the approach road. Emergency vehicles were unable to get through, and the locals were distressed. The falls are quite easy to reach by walking along the canal from Llangollen.

These telephone boxes are very well maintained and are used for educational purposes. I did try to press button B, but got no result. The green Cabmen's shelter, also very well maintained and now listed, has an interesting story which I'll get round to. In 1911 the shelter was bought by the daughter of a former mayor of Ripon for £200 and is now listed and very well preserved

But what are they looking at? James Turrell is widely acknowledged as one of the most important artists working today. From the mid 1960s onwards his principal concern has been the way we apprehend light and space. One of Turrell's ‘Skyspaces’, is an enclosed viewing chamber that affects our perception of the sky, and James and Adrian are calmly watching clouds through the open space in the roof. See the PiP. I found that sitting in this chamber to be mesmerising, and immensly calming. Very suitable for those wishing to meditate.

May 17, 2026 - SC 197 - Have a seat! I have had this little chair for over 35 years. When I bought it (cheap), the camework on the seat was totally broken. A good friend replaced the canework, and I cleaned and waxed the wood. It stays in the guest bedroom, for folks to either hang clothes on the back or just throw them onto the chair.
