In 1953 when Elizabeth II was crowned, we lived in St,Andrews, where there was only one house that had a TV aerial. It was a big 'X'. The house was at the top of Dempster terrace next to the Episcopalian Church, and that's what we looked at. What a change since then. My dad was working in Hampshire at the time, and we followed him down in 1954. I made a scrap book of the coronation, and had the tin of chocolate etc..

We looked at the aerial in wonderment, not the TV. ;-))

A great day for the succession of the great Elizabeth. A beautiful symbol, nicely presented.

The flags aren't too pompous, just the right size of festive decoration for your village! I assume you're in front of the telly...;-)

Yes of course, Gudrun. I was eleven when Elizabeth II was crowned, and there was only one TV set in our town in Scotland. needless to say it wasn't in our house.

A lovely photo Amelia.............the flags are perfect............any more decoration would be over the top I think. The light is lovely despite that threatening sky!

I watched the whole event on TV this afternoon. I was only one year old when the last coronation took place and. needless to say I can't remember a thing about it :-))

There doesn't seem to be many decorations abou,t Ashby-de-la Zouch has a lot of flags. Some where I still have a little notebook 'What I did on coronation day' as you say seeing a television was a novelty

A lovely picture of the centre of your village Amelia. I was just 2 when Queen Elizabeth was crowned, and I enjoyed watching the Coronation of King Charles. There are a lot of decorations in this area.
