160 pounds in 1910 must have been a fortune;
Wrappers allowed for when returned... these were the days!

Hello Amelia an interesting set of pictures indeed here ..

Firstly a rather sizable bill for cloth in 1910 with an inflation calculation to today ( 2018 ) of approx £18,304.53 ..

And secondly for getting so close to Adrian's wallet you could get a shot of the combination dial :))

Best wishes .. Steve

OMG Amelia did you look up Vicuna cloth ... see:https://www.google.com/search?q=vicuna&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS753US753&oq=vicuna&aqs=chrome..69i57.6243j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Vicuna cloth is unaffordable these days! I'm glad we all have decimal systams now, this looks so complicated. 5% for cash is better than out 3% Skonto these days ( if they give it at all...)

On the strength of the fact that I was working in Woollies to maintain an income while studying for a degree in education, I was asked to instruct the staff in the use of decimal currency. These were normal folks who could quite happily work in base 2 (Halfpennies to pennies), base 12 (Pennies to shillings) and base 20 (Shillings to pounds). They were having difficulty with trying to get their heads round the conversion of old money to decimal currency. I just told them to forget about the conversions and work in base 10. It seemed to work quite well. ;-)

To this day I still sometimes convert the decimal price back to the old currency and get a terrible shock at how much I'm prepared to pay for certain items. I'm sure you do the same occasionally, Joe. 10 shillings for a bar of KitKat? You must be joking. ;-)
