The Sunday Challenge: FLAMES.

There's nothing quite so comforting as an open fire is there? One can sit and watch the ever changing pattern of the flames, make toast, smell the wood smoke and generally sit in glowing comfort. Of course there are downsides. Clearing out the ash, bringing in more coal and logs and resetting the fire. Is it all worth it? We also have a pretend coal, enclosed gas fire in the study (see the blue flames on the pic below). Quick and easy, no mess, no fuss, no bother. Which would you choose?

Sorry folks, our Internet connection has been down for the last 5-6 hours while BT sorted out some phone lines which were down in the village. They said it would be up and running again by 6.30. It's now OK - 15 minutes early. Be with you all soon, after we've eaten and lit the fire.

I would choose the music first - always been fond of The Doors. Then out of nostalgia and sentiment the wood fire. But it seems that these really are incredibly carcinogenic and so it would have to be the rather soulless pretend fire (at least they can look decent enough these days compared to the ones I remember as a child!)
