Trees - Week 10 - evergreen

You have a lot of different types of trees, how lovely, Jenny! When we first bought our house, there were 6 yews planted right in front near the house and treated as bushes. We quickly realized if we didn't move them to a bigger space that they would quickly overtake where they were in front of the house. So we replanted them as a hedgerow alongside the driveway, where they stayed for many years. My husband never liked them because of their fast paced growth, and that they were getting in the way of his mowing. He wound up getting rid of them, something I didn't want (I would have just let them grow up into a tall hedgerow screen). However, if your yew tree is the same type as my bushes, then those bushes would have grown enormous, taking over the driveway! Maybe Rich did the right thing after all, lol!

I have mainly maples and white pines in my yard, along with a huge pin oak and 2 "Christmas" Trees (one of which I photographed for the 10-week tree project recently).

The yew has been that height for as long as I can remember, so it did stop growing eventually. The fir trees however, are still growing. A few years ago I could see next door's window upstairs, now all I see is tree [better really].

I do love the big spruce trees.. Or small ones for that matter. Especially when they have their cones

Yes I used to have a lovely tall spruce tree in my other garden and it was roughly 60 feet high. It had a beautiful shape. Now he's all gone. Such a shame
