"Venices" in the world

What is necessary for a city to be considered a "Venice"?
Channels, boats cruising through the city, an atmosphere in some way reminiscent of "Venezia"?
Amsterdam should be an example?
Which other cities in the world?
Recife, in the northeast , is considered the "brazilian Venice".
The fascination for these cities could be considered therefore universal and , perhaps, it would be possible to enrich the group considering these aspects and possibilities.
