When photographs are taken to build a catalogue it is important to show the subject (flower, insect, piece of whatever) in a cold static way, framed tightly and perfectly focused. On other purposes contextualizing and depth of field are fine ways to give a feeling to the photos.
It is what I try to do: show my feelings towards my subject, some planned "imperfection" makes the difference.

What an incomprehensible, and mean, comment from Mr. Guydel, Isabel. So sorry you had to deal with this today, when there are definitely other things on you mind.

I suppose there will always be people who think a good photograph means pretty, polished, glossy, technically faultless. Fortunately, there are also those who believe that a good photograph tells a story, evokes an emotion, shows us the real "world of a flower". If Mr. Guydel had taken a moment to look at your gallery and tried to understand where you are coming from and where you are going as a photographer, he might have have avoided making such an arrogant fool of himself. If a very amateurish amateur like myself can see that you know exactly what you are doing with your "top of the line" equipment, then certainly an accomplished photographer (or one who considers himself an accomplished photographer) should too.

The more shame on him that he is a group administrator and bears more responsibility than the rest of us to express himself within the bounds of politeness. He's perfectly entitled not to like a photo, even to not accept it within a group (though that should be not because he does not like it, but because it does not comply with the group rules), but he is certainly not entitled to write arrogant, sniggering put-downs and try to pass them off as "constructive criticism".

Olá Annalia,

You sum up the situation well, Mr Guydel is an arrogant little person, but there are many such people around the world and it is true that it is painful to be confronted with such narrow-mindedness.

That day was not the best day to deal with aggression, there was some not so good news from our friend Andy (fortunately yesterday he was much better), anyway I never aggress others and I hate being aggressed.

I haven't had to deal with Mr Guydel before, I don't know what caused such an overreaction to a photo, maybe jealousy for the gear?

A photo is above all for me an expression of our feelings towards what we photograph. There are excellent photos made with a basic instamatic, a smartphone ... the quality of the gear is a plus, a comfort, but not the most important.

Thank you Annalia for this long message, also for your feelings and understanding of what my photos are trying to express.
