Our city tour in downtown Shanghai gave an impression of the fast development from former swamp area in a super modern city vista. The Xueyuan Road goes in underground to the other riverside.

An old man in Tenganan the village where the origin Bali Aga people are living. This face tells storries and he is one of the rare old inhabitants of Bali island. The Bali Aga, also referred to as the Bali Mula (mula meaning 'initial' or 'original' in Balinese), are the aboriginal Balinese. The people predominantly inhabit the Karangasem region in the island's east. The majority of the subsequent Balinese came in through the expansion of the Hindu Majapahit kingdom, via the neighbouring island of Java.

Paduraksa, known as Kori Agung is a type of gateway covered with towering roof that can be found everywhere on the island of Bali. This is the gate to the inner courtyard of the private temple on the property of my friends family Bandem.

Ni Kadek Mayang Sari greets me for praying in the private temple complex. This place normally is peaceful and desolate. They transform into scenes of great activity during festivals or temple anniversaries. Other times a place for praying and offering the daily holy oblations.

Along the sideway to the mount Batukaru with its marvellous temple complexes we made a stop to enjoy the cultivate landscape. The covered plants are longbeans protected agains bird eating.

Short name Komang means the third born baby. Komang is the twenty minutes younger twin sister of my friend Mayang and is living in Switzerland for many years. The temple's most important shrine is a 7-tiered meru dedicated to Mahadewa, the God of Mount Batukaru. The temple remains an extremely sacred site for Bali's Hindu population. Only a few tourist visiting this holy place which you only arrive in private arrangement.

The temple referred to by locals as Pura Luhur Batukaru, is one of Bali’s key temples, located at the foot of namesake Mount Batukaru. The walled compounds contain several shrines, as well as high 'meru' towers, and 'bale' pavilions with unmistakably ancient Balinese features, such as the dark grass roofs and intricate wall carvings. My photo shows the holy inside yard which can be walked in by praying Hindus only.

Balinese families with their children dressed in the traditional clothes from adjacent villages in nearby Wangaya Gede and from all over the island make pilgrimages to this mountain temple for blessings.

It is impressive how often and how much the people of Bali carry laboriously made offerings to the temple every day, even though they hardly have anything of their own. Offerings to worship the gods and appease demons are part of every day's routine. A parade procession of women carrying fruit, flower and bamboo cakes on their heads to offer sacrifices to the temple, such as the village temple of Pura Desa Sembung in Mengwi Province, Bali.
