Most of the passengers and skipper wear helmets. Accidents happen too often. Speedboat warning January 1, 2007: There are unconfirmed reports that as of January 1, 2007, the Lao Government has banned the use of speedboats due to environmental concerns. Relying on speedboats for travel may not be an option, and further information should be investigated. However, in early December 2007 speedboats were still cruising the Mekong, operating the Vientiane-Paklay-Vientiane route on five days/week and the Luang Prabang-Huay Xai route.

An other six hour tour the Nam Ou downstream the next stop is Muang Ngoi and Nong Khiaw, the place we were one year before.

For road construction on the national highway 2E to Vietnam. The road goes about 40 km to the border and further to Dien Bien Phu. This border isn't open for foreigners.
