Suzan at the Pagerwesi festival

I already posted an holw album about the Pagervesi ceremony hold at the private complex where I live in Sembung ind the province Mengwi on Bali. Gek Suzan, her full name I Gusti Ayu Vidiastuti, blessing in front of the holy altar with lighting incense sticks. Pagerwesi is also called "rerainan gumi" by the Balinese and means the holiday for everyone from every background - from the families of priests to the common families.

My home in Sembung on Bali

Sembung is a small village in the province of Mengwi, not far from the famous temple Pura Taman Ayun. In Sembung I stay as a member in the Banjar, the Balinese local community. My home is on the left side. The Candi Bentar gate is the entrance to the house temple and in front the private altar.

Statue of goddess Dewi Sri

In the middle of the park a statue of the holy goddess Dewi Sri standing where visitors passing over the paddy fields. Dewi Sri is always depicted as a youthful, beautiful, slim yet curvaceous woman, with stylised facial features idiosyncratic to the respective locale, essentially a woman at the height of her femininity and fertility. In Javanese iconography, usually Dewi Sri is depicted wearing green, white or golden yellow clothes with regal jewelry attire, similar to those of Hindu goddesses, and holding rice plant with full rice grains in one of her hands as her attribute (Balinese lakçana). The goddess is believed to have dominion over the underworld and the moon.

At the express request of my long-time friends, the couple Fatih (I Gusti Agung Anom Santosa) and Mayang (Ni Made Mayasari) I post this photo, which was taken by me on November 29, 2019 in Green Kubu Park in Bali. Together with the friends, I enjoy this post at fc. Fatih is working as ship's steward on AIDAstella cruising ship and left us the day in Dec. for the following eight months.

Mayun celebrating Otonan

The three years old boy Mayun celebrating his Otonan day by eating a piece of cooked chicken, which was blessed before by an high Pedanda priest. Most Balinese do not celebrate their birthdays like western people do, even though nowadays there are some in the younger Balinese generation who celebrate their birthdays according to the international calendar. People here celebrate Otonan, which occur every 210 days according to the Balinese calendar system. This ceremony is supposed to be celebrated during a person’s entire life. But most importantly, celebration of the first until the fourth Otonan ceremony is a must!

Simple but nice stay on Balangan beach

Balangan Beach is a white sandy beach stretch 200 meters with panoramic view to the Indian Ocean and blessed by the spectacular sunset that create the romantic nuance for every visitor who visiting this beach. This beach is also endowed by enormous wave that is demanded by all surfers in particular for experience up to professional surfers. The beach is located in the white stone hill area of Pecatu, south part of Bali Island right in Uluwatu peninsula, become the famous place, and selected as one of the best surfing points in the island of god. This beach is very popular within the surfers ranging from local and foreign surfers. Balangan Beach is a very beautiful beach and perfectly for relaxation on the white sand while enjoying the tropical atmosphere and sea breeze. This beach is increasing renowned for the excellent feature it has and make it as one the best choice surfing spots in Bali Island.

Mayang at the pegawesi ceremony

A further portrait photo shot during the last pegawesi ceremony in the small village Sembung. On her forehead and the neck approach the bija which means: First God has blessed us Bhakta Anugrah Sri that is welfare in the form of life seeds through their realization of Bhoga (Balinese for food). In this case bija comes from the word “Wija” and it means “seed”, rice grain (the sign of life). And second God has blessed Bhakta Anugrah Widya, intelligence, wisdom, brilliance, god’s holly light, therefore enable human to choose something good and bad (Balinese wiweka).

Agung offering the jerimpen

I Gusti Agung Suyasa with the offering made with the skin of pork called Jerimpen. The offering ranges to the enormous jerimpen that stretch towards the sky. It encourages the villagers of Sembung to always create an offering like this to be presented to the majesty of the Gods.

The mask of Rangda

Product of the great master of mask producer I Wayan Tangguh which means "The mighty firstborn". The Rangda mask is used mainly in Bali, a small island in Indonesia that's main faith is Hinduism. The Rangda story is part of Balinese Hindu Mythology where Rangda is the personification of evil and is known as the demon queen of the witches.
