One of two cards from Halifax with an unused, undivided, "Private Post Card" back. Likely c. 1901-1903, although conceivably a bit earlier. I am not very familiar with Maritimes cards. This card features three attractive scenes (each individually labelled) from the Public Gardens in Halifax.

Posted October 4, 1904 at Truro, N.S., showing the Intercolonial Railway station Warwick Bros. & Rutter no. 192, a very early undivided back. Message: "We arrived all Right on the 15th at Mtl (?) and 20th at Truro."

This is a very early MacFarlane card without the MacFarlane identification. It has the Halifax coat of arms on the front. The card was mailed on January 5, 1903 at Halifax to Miss H. (?) Field, Strathfield, Leamington, Warwickshire, England. No message. Has the typical "Private Mailing Card" back.

By Henry Hechler of Halifax, dated July 15, 1901 and addressed to Mr. Leo W. Geisler, Sr., Amsterdam Ave and 105th St. "Drug Store", Manhattan Bor., New York, U.S.A. The cancels on the back (see image) are slightly odd as it appears that the postmark reads [19]05 -- it seems possible that the original stamp was torn off and another attached at a later date but I can't quite figure out why. The note on the front appears to be suggesting that liquor is hard to come by in Halifax.

Valentine & Sons no. 100,004 postmarked December 7, 1909 to Miss Lenton, Glen Cove, Chester and marked "Doris for her collection": "Very many thanks for your P.C. You was smart. We got up ?? soon after 10 and as you see landed all safe. It's a lovely day to-day. I'm not feeling Chester-sick, though Sat. can come round. K. has a pict. your you when you come up. Love to ... Tuesday. Rose." This would be to Chester, Nova Scotia.

This one is addressed to Mrs. John Stookberry, 60 Atlantic Terrace, Lynn, Massachusetts, U.S.A. and was posted at Halifax on July 3, 1903. I have a copy of this MacFarlane card already, but I liked the message on this one: "The Queen Hotel is old and dingy, but has an excellent table. The town is a disappointment. The harbour is wonderfully good but the town is far from picturesque, save for the Citadel and some few fine old buildings. H. W. P."
