Steamer "Winnitoba" on Red River, Winnipeg, Man.

Valentine & Sons card no. 105,147 posted on September 11, 1912 at St. Boniface, Man. to Mr. Justus Morria, Acton Vale, Quebec, with a message in French. The Winnitoba was a popular passenger vessel owned by the Hyland family. It mainly carried passengers from central Winnipeg to the Hyland amusement park downstream around Middlechurch. This card provides a nice view of the ship, which sailed for only a couple of seasons before being destroyed in a fire.

Qu'appelle St., Qu'appelle.

Postmarked in August 1912 at Eyebrow, Saskatchewan and addressed to Mrs. A. Hailstone, Carling, Ontario (Parry Sound District). A branch of the Northern Bank is at right. The card appears to be in the Winnipeg Photo Co. series but is not marked as such. It is numbered 699. It is attributed to W. H. Hunter. The Central Drug Hall appears in the centre of the photo, so it is possible that W. H. Hunter could have been the proprietor of that shop.

Main Street Looking South, Thessalon, Ont.

Postmarked August 31, 1912 to Miss A. Grindell of Everton, Ont., with an enthusiastic message as follows: "Dear Aunt Annie: I had a fine time in "the Soo. The Corrie's and Campbell's were *very* nice to me. I had a splendid little trip down there to-day. Everyone on the boat was so nice I wanted to stay right on it. I have a boarding-house for the present anyway. I think I shall like the town. Winnie." The card was published by J. A. McLarty of Thessalon with the number J. M. 2649. McLarty's Drug Store is visible on the left side of the street. It looks like this a Stedman card but that is not stated. It is included in Smith's Stedman guide, however, so there can be little doubt that it's by Stedman.

Full up with all sorts of interest. Ambulance work to the fore now. Yours etc. M. Millard, 11 Poplar Plains, Toronto." (I can see about where that is out the window -- the card has come almost full circle after spending 101 years in England!) It is Valentine & Sons no. 101,731 and was posted at Toronto on August 30, 1912.
