I don't own one any more. A son-in-law took the couple that my dad (a hunter) left to me and put them in a gun safe where he keeps the one he uses to hunt wild boar. None could have been used for a horrific event like the recent one anyway.

I can't for the life of me imagine why anyone needs a semi-automatic. And yet, at the Senior Center a rather elderly man was expounding that "once they tell us what kind of guns we can't own the next step will be take away all of our guns. You wait and see." I suspect he and I wouldn't see eye to eye on much.

And I don't quite agree with your comment. All of us need to figure out. You, too.It can only be a community effort if anything changes.

Indeed. And I should have and will now put the subtitle in quotes since it's what I was imagining that melancholic figure of Jesus might say as he ponders our foolishness 2000 years later ....

Well created and taken. From here it amazes me that military weapons are still allowed to be publicly available.

The conventional interpretation of the second amendment seems to me to imply that military or military-style weapons should be legal -- so that the militia can be well armed. Why would anyone want to own one? Well, Congress won't let the CDC study the problem, so I doubt we'll ever know.

What would Jesus say? He's said it: Matthew 5:39: I say unto you, That ye resist not evil.

As they say, Switzerland has a lot of military weapons kept at home. I've seen people on the streetcar there or on motorbikes with their automatic rifles going to their shooting tests. The Swiss murder rate is considerably lower than the American, though.

From this foreigner's perspective. it seems that American gun violence is in part due to many Americans' idea that it's acceptable. The people have spoken.
