I thought Toronto took bad care of its hydrants, but the date on that one is 2006! They just took out the 100-year-old hydrants in my neighbourhood, and they were in better shape than this. Paint them, eh? Incidentally, how do you see these things in the snow? Oh, right.

On the other hand, your photo is entirely lovely. I especially like the line from the hydrant through the cyclist to the line of cars to the frame. The eyes just drift right in. The rust grabs your eye then it keeps heading left.

Thanks, John. I don't know if it's the fog, but hereabouts, you start painting something, and before you finish, it's already starting to rust ... that's why they use that lovely orange for the Golden Gate Bridge, so it doesn't show!
