Basel - by the Rhine

Thanks, John, nice to hear from you. Alas, my hometown is the obscure and some would say ugly watchmaking town of Grenchen, but I visit Basel pretty much on every trip as I have friends there (same with Zurich, Bern and other "pretty" cities.)

I travel pretty much exclusively by train in Switzerland so don't know the sign but can well imagine it, except for the "Austria" part, since France, Switzerland and Germany touch near Basel, Austria however is a couple of hundred klicks further east.

My favorite sign is in the railway station in Basel where you can walk from Switzerland to Germany (and they rarely check your passport.) Of course, coming INTO Switzerland is another story.
