next to the memorial of thomas sotherton of 1608 is this odd holder containing ? reeds or a palm. the metalwork doesn't look c17, but is it something to do with the memorial or some annual ceremony ? I can find no references in books.

1673 monument, which may translate as being to blasius nunes manhans, portuguese doctor to her highness the queen of great britain, which must mean catherine of braganza, though she didn't move here full time until 1685. a portuguese medical doctor called blasius nunes manhas gets a mention in an c18 book by nicholas antonio, and this may be the same man. deep in the cellars underneath the courtyard this is one of a group of interesting c17 memorials removed from the catholic chapel of the original palace here, not mentioned in pevsner.

1633 memorial to catherine guilermet , wife of jehan bluteau, who seems to have been potager to queen henrietta maria, probably her vegetable gardener rather than her cook. deep in the cellars underneath the courtyard this is one of a group of interesting c17 memorials removed from the catholic chapel of the original palace here, not mentioned in pevsner. contrary to claims elsewhere I'd say it is extremely unlikely that the bodies are still with the stones.

1637 memorial to the french ambassador jacques d'angennes, whose entrails were buried in the catholic palace chapel. the rest of him probably went home to france. deep in the cellars underneath the courtyard this is one of a group of interesting c17 memorials not mentioned in pevsner moved when the palace was rebuilt in the late c18 .

1674 memorial to edmund fortescue, gentleman usher to both queen henrietta maria and catherine of braganza. son of a royalist family and born in exile in delft,it's difficult to see why he ended up here unless he was a catholic. deep in the cellars underneath the courtyard is a group of interesting c17 memorials removed from the catholic chapel of the original palace here, none mentioned in pevsner.
