Looking over the edge of the 150 foot high viewing tower. Two of our party sit on the lower level. A great spot for watching monkeys and birds. We also saw an opossum on the way up!
World's largest grasshopper

At 6 inches (15cm) long, Tropidacris cristata is the largest species in the world. You can see its bright red hind-wings when it flies. It is found throughout tropical South and Central America.

We were told it was harmless. I found it when looking for a poisonous Coral Snake that someone else had just seen. Cristalino Lodge, Amazon.

This is a Tamandua (Lesser Anteater) climbing a tree at Cristalino Lodge in the Amazon.

A big bug (Heteroptera) which has a light in its head
at night (so we were told, but only saw this in daylight on the day we left) Cristalino Lodge.

Waterfall in this upland region. We swam here - and in all six other waterfalls that hot day! Wonderful... Swift roost behind this fall.

If you look closely you can see two Great Dusky Swifts. This is where they roost and it is the only place they are ever seen. It is assumed that they feed so high up in the air that they are never seen the rest of the time!

This is the Yellow Armadillo, the species most often seen during the day. There was a small colony living near to the lodge at Caranda.
