I especially especially like the picture of the ship on the left. It could have inspired Ed Ruscha's paintings of gas stations. The decoration in this room is perfect for setting both these fine pictures off.

I didn't know Edward Ruscha did paintings of gas stations, John. I am aware of his photographs of this subject as his book, Twentysix Gasoline Stations, is featured in my The Genius of Photography set of DVDs. Thanks for your visit and very kind comment. All the best, Joe

To my mind the paintings are an interesting counterpoint to the photos, Joe. They're idealized while the photos are matter-of-fact. I don't know if he intended the differences to be a comment on the difference between photography and painting but I think they are informative. Certainly no camera could reproduce anything like the paintings, and no painter, for reasons Talbot pointed out in The Pencil of Nature, could afford even to try to reproduce something like the photos.

I have started looking online at Edward Ruscha's artwork of gas stations. I love his sense of perspective and his colour schemes. Thanks for your very kind comment, John. All the best, Joe
