Queen Victoria Pillar Box, Helensburgh
New Pillar Box East Princess Street Helensburgh

Came back here less than two weeks later, and the Queen Victoria pillar box had been replaced with this!

Now that's what I call a proper pillar box. It needs a bit of TLC though. We had a fake Victorian box in Falkland briefly but it incensed us residents and was removed. Haven't unearthed any Edward III boxes other than the Dunfermline one. What I would like to know is if there are any EIIR pillar boxes. I remember the first ones being blown up as Queenie is Elizabeth the First in Scotland. The Post Office very quietly dropped the EIIR to avoid any more trouble. I don't know if they reverted to it later or if any of the originals remain.

Jean, I have photographed the Edward VIII pillar box in Dunfermline. I have photographed one in Balloch and two in Glasgow. I know of one other in Glasgow, which I hope to photograph soon. Cheers, Joe

What a turn up for the books. I thought they were going for bigger boxes as we all post more parcels. Maybe it works like the Tardis.

That's what I thought too, Jean. There is a Queen Victoria pillar box near where I live. I think I had better take a pic, in case they are going to replace it with one of these monstrosities.

If the new post box in Helensburgh does't work like the TARDIS, it will soon fill up.

Cheers, Joe
